Rape Is About Power, Not Sex
Our social attitude of victim-blaming is an effective strategy in explaining away sexual assaults in Bangladesh (and worldwide) because it is rooted in our traditional gender roles and social hierarchies that place privileged groups as untouchables and beyond the reach of law and order. I will engage in a dialogue with notable Bangladeshi feminist scholar Snigdha Rezwana to unpack the underlying power relations behind sexual assaults.
