UNDERSTANDING POLITICAL APATHY AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE

Dr. Denise Robb will join us to discuss political apathy among youth on Nov 9. Political apathy among young people is a global phenomenon. However, meaningful social change is not possible without the effective and critical engagement of the youth in the political process. The participation of all citizens in formal political processes is fundamental for democracy. If a segment of the population is deprived of the right to vote or is disengaged, the representativeness and legitimacy of these processes is undermined. Although young people participate in political processes in multiple ways, their representation in formal political processes is limited. There is a growing recognition, however, that young people's involvement is critical to making elections more representative.

RETHINKING FREEDOM: THE INTERSECTIONS BETWEEN GENDER/SEXUAL MARGINALITY

স্বাধীনতার পুনর্ভাবনা: লিঙ্গীয় এবং যৌন প্রান্তিকতা আর অন্যান্য নিপীড়নের মধ্যকার অন্তর্প্রবিষ্টতা। Prominent queer artist and scholar Ali Asgar and anthropologist Dr. Snigdha Rezwana (Jahangirnagar University) will join us on October 26 at 9 PM Dhaka time. We will engage in a critical conversation to understand how we can reimagine freedom by examining the intersections between gender and sexual marginality from the Bangladeshi context. The conversation will also involve discussing how various systems of oppression are connected to queer subjectivity.
